October 2016 — The first of three prestigious golf events to be held at Laguna Lang Co over a five-month stretch takes place Nov. 10-13, when the 2nd Annual Laguna Golf Classic is staged at the only Sir Nick Faldo-designed course in Vietnam.
Hosted by Faldo, who designed the lauded links-style layout and is its brand ambassador, the four-day celebration of golf will include two 18-hole rounds, a couple of entertainment-filled dinners and a pair of game-improvement clinics by the six-time major champion.
“It’s going to be one heck of a weekend,” said Darren Robson, Laguna Lang Co’s club manager. “It always is when Sir Nick is here. He’s one of world golf’s greatest players and personalities.”
In February, some of Korea’s best male golfers will converge on Laguna Lang Co for the Korean Professional Golf Association (KPGA) Winter Tour 2017, a month-long promotional endeavor highlighted by three, two-day tournaments.
“Given the amount of television coverage the KPGA Tour receives, we think it’s going to be a great opportunity to promote central Vietnam as a premier golf destination in Asia,” said Robson. “Vietnam has always been a popular destination for Korean golf travelers, but the courses in this region — including ours — are still relatively new. So the more exposure for ‘Golf Coast Vietnam,’ the better.”
Almost as soon as the Winter Tour wraps, Laguna Lang Co will segue into the site of the 11th Faldo Asia Series Grand Final, a competition featuring more than 70 of the finest golfers aged 12-21 in Asia.
While exact dates have not yet been announced, the three-day tournament is pegged for March. Winners of the various divisions will qualify to play in the Faldo Series global final in England in October. Previous winners of the global final include major champions Rory McIlroy and Yani Tseng.
“The excitement level around here is high,” said Robson. “These next few months are going to be a lot of fun.”
